A short introduction to Pilates with Maxine
Why I teach Pilates
I started Pilates when I was at University, as I studied dance and dancers often do Pilates alongside their technique training. I fell in love with the mindful way of moving my body. It left me feeling calm and relaxed, but was a great way to strengthen my body whilst maintaining my flexibility. This sparked my interest and I knew I would one day I would like to teach Pilates.
I am passionate about movement to stay healthy in body and mind. I love teaching Pilates and helping people connect with their bodies and move better. When I hear of improvements in pain levels, or flexibility, ease of movements or balance in my clients daily lives, this is when I know I have found the right job for me. I love to help people and really enjoy the community that we have in class.
I firmly believe that everyone can access Pilates and I aim to create a safe space in class for all bodies. The wellness industry can sometimes be an overwhelming space. I encourage a balanced lifestyle and a strong body that can move well. Let's move away from exercise as punishment and instead move to feel good in body and mind.
My experience and qualifications
In 2015 I left my life in London, working as a freelance dance artist, to move to Qatar. My job as a dance artist was not available there, so I knew this was the time to explore a career in Pilates.
I trained as a Pilates matwork teacher with Body Control Pilates, later completing advanced training, all small equipment and a qualification in Pilates for pre and post natal.
On my return to the UK in 2018, I launched "Pilates with Maxine" in South East Kent, and my business has since grown organically. I also continue to teach creative dance with The Royal Ballet, leading creative dance projects throughout the UK.
I am committed to lifelong learning, actively following new research in movement and exercise and continuing my studies in Pilates. In May 2024 I completed my wunda chair training and in November 2025 I qualified as a reformer teacher.
In 2025 I opened the doors to 'The Studio'. My home studio which is equipped with 2 reformers, a wunda chair and a cadillac. I plan to add another two reformers and a ladder barrel (and think of a better name) so, watch this space!
About Pilates
Pilates is a body training method which trains your deep postural muscles, famously the core muscles. In its simplest form it helps to improve posture and can prevent, or relieve, pain. At a more advanced level it is a full body conditioning method used by professional dancers and athletes alike.
One of the key benefits of Pilates is its adaptability. With various equipment options, such as the Reformer and Cadillac, you can explore different exercises that challenge your body in new ways.
